First, let me say that I like to put down a few beers. It doesn’t happen often, but once in a while I get pretty blitzed, and one of my buddies’ favorite things to do when that happens is to take me to the tattoo parlor. And needless to say, sometimes things get out of hand. That’s where Tattoo Goo is a vital addition to your medicine cabinet.
I first discovered tattoo goo when after a particularly rambunctious evening I discovered a tattoo of Yoko Ono on my right leg. The funny thing is that I don’t even like Yoko. So I’m sitting there with this Yoko tattoo, and it’s really painful especially when you’re hung over. My girlfriend, who knows a thing or two about tattoos, handed me a can of this, I rubbed it on and it instantly felt better. Even kind of soothed the hangover a little bit, although that might be my imagination.
Then there was the time I had Michael Kinsley tattooed on my left butt cheek and Robert Novak done on my right cheek. I didn’t even know it happened until the next day at my girlfriend’s sister’s wedding. I mooned my girlfriend’s father and everyone started laughing. I was wondering why my butt cheeks were burning and I had just chalked it up to not remembering a paddle whooping contest or something. But once I applied the Tattoo Goo…the pain was gone instantly.
It wasn’t quite as funny when I discovered the tic-tac-toe board on my bald spot. It kinda looks stupid, and I’m a little more wary when I drink now and all that, but I will say that it didn’t hurt anymore after a couple of applications. And the kids enjoy it so it’s not all bad.
Overall this is excellent stuff and has handled every type of tattoo irritation that I have. I’m sure any dermatologist would agree.

So, some would say this stuff’s a waste of money. Really, all you need is scent free lotion, and wash it regularly. But, I like Tattoo Goo, and find that it works well. Really, everyone has their own tattoo care methods, and any of them are good really, as long as you keep it clean, it’ll heal up for you nicely.

The first couple days after your tattoo I’d rather use A&D ointment as it reduces swelling and enables healing pretty quick. After the swelling goes down I switched to the goo as it’s portable and really easy to apply. The goo has been making the after care a lot easier with no problems with itching, swelling, scabbing, commonly associated with getting inked. It washes off nicely and re-applying is quick. I like this stuff and would recommend it to anyone looking for this type of product. Bottom line… wash that tattoo between application of anything you put on and your tattoo will heal quicker and look better for years to come. I’d rate the goo a 5 but it doesn’t really help with the initial swelling… it’s more suited for keeping the mess down once healing begins.
